Yes, our home has been caught up in the Disney+ phenomenon.  I probably wouldn’t have decided to get it, but the Webmaster informed me that Verizon customers were getting a free trial of Disney+, so…. bring it on!

There’s a lot of things on there that we own on DVD already, but there’s some that we don’t, and the boys are enjoying just searching for things.  (I do think the search engine is a little clunky and brings up weird results sometimes.)

Ane was thrilled when she learned we had it, and immediately got the app installed on her phone.  Initially, the Webmaster was going to give her a “child account,” but then we discovered that limited her to Disney classics and Disney Junior, so that was a no-go.  I also told her that I didn’t want her staying up all night watching Marvel movies, either.

Thumper discovered that all his favorite Star Wars movies are there, so he’s hooked.

Rerun was thrilled to find some of the older cartoons that had been removed from YouTube a while ago (copyright laws) were there, so he immediately asked for those.

Tad wanted to know when he could have his own device so he could have his own Disney+ profile, like Ane.  Ummm, NEVER.  Well, maybe not never, but close to it.  We had a discussion about it with his therapist, where he acknowledged that yes, it would be very hard to not watch things all the time.

I have yet to watch anything new on it, but I will get there.  Eventually.

Thumper’s school had Crazy Hair Day today, and this is what happens when there’s plenty of leftover color wax in the jar after Halloween.

Isn’t Thumper adorable?  He was completely fascinated with his look.

His hair stayed pointy all day (according to his teachers, he kept touching it to make sure), and he was kind of disappointed when it all washed out in the shower.  (And that stuff really does wash out easily, totally recommend it for a quick hair color accent.)

It’s not a bad look on him!

To follow up on our zoo visit (and to bribe the boys into leaving before traffic got too bad), I suggested stopping for Trophy Cupcakes on the way home.

Ane and I consulted their online menu for the day, I got everyone’s request, and then went and picked them up.

One for everyone – Tad and Thumper are the chocoholics, so they always go for the Triple Chocolate cupcakes, while Rerun prefers the classic Vanilla Chocolate, which was dressed up for Veterans Day.

I think we had a pretty fun day off – we got outside, enjoyed the fresh air, saw animals, and finished off with cupcakes!

While we continue to thank the veterans in our family (and I still think this picture is one of the best, it’s from 2009)…

… we took advantage of the non-rainy weather and the day off to go to the zoo.

We went to the outdoor play area – something we rarely do, because the weather is usually not quite this nice – and turned the boys loose.  Ane helped me keep track of Thumper, who just wanted to walk on fences as if they were balance beams (seriously, kid is trying to give me a heart attack), while Tad meandered and Rerun decided to build a dam.

This proves yet again that all this kid needs is sticks and dirt to make him happy.  He could have stayed there all day, moving these tree limbs (that the zoo has wisely left for kids to play with) into position to pretend that he was building a dam.  In fact, he protested quite loudly when Tad wanted to move on.  But we did, checking out the bears, the river otters, and all of Rerun’s favorite bird friends in the rain forest.

The toucans were even out, clicking their beaks.

Ane pointed the toucan out to Thumper, and asked him, “What does a toucan say?” to see if he would respond.

Tad helpfully filled in the silence with “Froot Loops are a part of a balanced breakfast!”

I heard a few adults get a laugh out of that one.

It’s never a dull day with my kids at the zoo.
