CanDo It!

6:56pm

The CanDo 5K has become a particularly fun one for the family.  First of all, it’s close by.  Second, Danny and his family run it as well.  Third, because it is so special-needs oriented, it draws a lot of support from the school district – including lots of teachers that we know.  So it makes for a very fun event!

This year, Ane, Tad, the Webmaster, Auntie and JW all ran, while Rerun, Thumper and I stood on the sidelines to cheer.  Danny and his parents were also there.  Danny is a serious runner and didn’t want to lag behind, but his dad very kindly ran with Tad, while Danny’s mom and the Webmaster set their own walking pace (they each have a bad knee and running is no longer in the cards for them).

Our family team winner was JW (big surprise), with Auntie and Ane not too far behind him.  Once the Webmaster crossed the finish line, we took a group picture.

And we made sure to get a best buddies picture.

And we had great weather for it this year!  It was clear and chilly, but it wasn’t raining!

Flashback Friday

10:17pm

Thumper’s first major holiday was Easter.  He was all of ten days old, and he was just so tiny.  He wasn’t much bigger than his basket.

Now look at this kid.

Not so little anymore – and now he can hold that basket!

Ane Takes A Sick Day

10:10pm

Yesterday was not a great day for the Webmaster.  I had a doctor’s appointment, so he was seeing the kids off to school.  His day got derailed just before I left.  Ane called my cell phone.

“Mom, I’m in the nurse’s office and she’s sending me home.  I have a fever.”

The fun part about that was that 1) that means two days out of school, because you have to be fever-free for 24 hours before returning, and 2) the Webmaster couldn’t pick her up for another hour because the little boys were still waiting for their buses.

And then Rerun had to take a potty run, and missed his bus.

As I’m driving to my appointment, I get a ranting phone call from the Webmaster, asking “WHAT DO I DO NOW???”

Me: “Um, drop him off at his school on your way to pick up Ane.  Once Thumper gets on his bus, you have about 20 minutes before Rerun’s school starts.”

The joys of having the all the kids at different schools.

Eventually, Ane got out of school, got checked out at the doctor’s office, and was sent home to rest.

Today, she’s enjoying the peace and quiet, watching The Seven Samurai for Japanese class, and eating ramen for her still-sore throat.

Tomorrow, she goes back to school.  She’s already had Lina FaceTime her from English class, but she knows she’s going to have some catching up to do.

Thumper Does A Tech Demo

10:05pm

“Obachan, this is how you iPad.”

Thumper, after all the Easter hoopla was over, was happy just hanging out with his great-grandmother, showing her his Todo Math app, and demonstrating how to use it.

As Obachan said to me, “He’s teaching me math.”

It was so adorable because not only do they love each other, they love each other’s company, and neither of them is making demands on the other.  Obachan is just enjoying Thumper’s enthusiasm, and Thumper enjoys the audience.  He barely talks and she can barely hear.  It’s a win-win!
