We haven’t had the New Year’s feast – the Oshogatsu meal – yet, so it really doesn’t feel quite like New Year’s yet.  We put it off until Saturday in order to accommodate some extenuating circumstances – and traffic.

When I was reminding the boys of all the delicious foods that we will be having, Rerun had to ask, “But do I like that stuff?”

Me: “Well, when you were a baby…”

Rerun: “Oh, I was adorable!” (pauses) “I guess I’ll eat the food.”

Those gift cards were burning a hole in Tad’s pocket, and LEGO released a new line of DC Comics minifigures in blind bags for the New Year.

So off we went to the LEGO Store, and thanks to my one and only superpower (I have developed the skill of being able to feel through the bags to figure out what minifigure is inside), Tad ended up with nine different minifigures and no duplicates.

This is Very Important Stuff and I’m just beyond thrilled that there are more LEGO things in the house.

Happy New Year, everyone!

This is how Tad decided to ring in the Roaring 20’s.  We had planned to let the kids stay up.  Thumper ditched us all at about 11 pm and tucked himself into bed (fortunately, he had already gotten his teeth brushed and his jammies on).  Rerun hung in there to watch the fireworks show on TV – which was canceled in Seattle due to high winds.  As soon as the substitute “light show” was done, he took himself to bed.  Tad and Ane were still going strong, but we shooed them off once they had drunk most of the sparkling lemonade that I had picked up at Trader Joe’s (they had no sparkling grape juice this year!  What gives??) and sent them to bed at about 1 am.

Then everyone slept in, and once people started moving, I made waffles in the toaster oven for breakfast.  Rerun was not happy about this.

Rerun: “I wish we were having pancakes.”

Me: “You’ll live.”

Rerun: “But we haven’t had pancakes this year!”

Me: “IT’S JANUARY FIRST.”

Rerun: “SO I’M RIGHT.”

Happy New Year, indeed.

Guess who just passed her driving test???

Now, she just has to complete some things for the insurance company (including another 5 hours of driving), and she’ll be able to go and get her driver’s license!  What a way to end 2019!
