If this was a normal spring break, Tad and Danny would have been out once to do something fun.  When the schedules align around therapy during school vacations, Danny’s mom and I usually arrange to have them do something fun.  They’ve done movies together, lunch, miniature golf, and bowling in years past.

Well, this year, almost all of those options were shut down.  I’ve had “quarancoffee” dates with Danny’s mom – and with Friend –  so I invited Danny and his mom to a social distancing lunch at one of Tad’s favorite places – Dick’s Drive In, which is still open.

Burgers, milkshakes, friends in cars parked next to each other.  In this moment in time, this was the best we could do for the boys.

Even though Danny is now in high school, the boys have seen each other weekly over Zoom meetings with their Young Life group, which they enjoy.  But there is nothing like having lunch, face-to-face.

The lockdown continues.  The natural order of things is disrupted.  Thumper dressed himself this morning.

I am unsure of what to think about his Steve Jobs cosplay, accompanied by his LeapPad laptop.  How much should I read in to this?  Should I be worried that this is what he chose for himself to wear?

This is a very confusing time for us all.

Houston, we have a problem.  The oven is no longer heating up.

Look, I’m stuck here at home, and I happen to NEED to feed the family, as well as maybe bake some things (and for crying out loud, EASTER IS THIS SUNDAY), and THIS is the time that the oven decides to give up???

After some diagnostic work, we discovered the problem was that the bottom heating element had died.  This oven is over 20 years old, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.  However, this timing stinks.  (The broiler/top element still worked, so dinner was saved.)

The Webmaster looked up our oven model and found a replacement element – which, even though it is substantially cheaper and easier than buying a whole new oven in this current lockdown, will not arrive until AFTER this Easter Sunday.

*sigh*

I guess I need to change up the menu…

Well, it’s official.  The kids are not going to set foot back in a school building until sometime after June.  The governor officially canceled school yesterday afternoon, and we will be online until the end of the year.

I was on a Zoom meeting with Thumper’s therapist when the news was texted to me by the school district – otherwise, I might have started saying a lot of bad words.

This definitely puts a different spin on the rest of the year – and we’re on spring break right now, so who knows what the rest of the year will look like.  (And let’s not even talk about how we will be transitioning Tad from middle school to high school this fall…)

Rerun had made a comment about wanting to make a giant chocolate chip cookie earlier in the day.  I figured that this news was the perfect reason to make a giant cookie and eat it.

Fortunately, the kids were there to make sure I didn’t eat the whole thing by myself.  In my current mood, I would have been tempted to do so.
