It Was Hot

10:28pm

If you touch a switch plate and it is hot, that is bad.

If you flip the switch to off and the lights don’t turn off, that is bad.

If your electrical breaker box does not have good labels, you may turn off the wrong things while you find the right switch.

And if your light switch has a big crack in the back – well, it needs to be replaced before it decides to start an electrical fire.

Fortunately, for less than a dollar, the Webmaster bought a replacement switch, and all was well.  But that was not a fun moment.  At all.

Thumper Never Forgets

11:03am

The second I dropped Rerun off at camp, Thumper immediately said, “We go QFC?”

The kid has the memory of an elephant.

If someone goes to camp, then there must be a doughnut in it for Thumper.  And an escalator ride.

With reduced shopping hours, so many of Thumper’s favorite escalators are closed off right now.  But we found a new one!

Behold, the Holy Grail of escalators!  It’s undercover!  It’s outdoors!  It’s dual sided!

Thumper enjoyed himself immensely.

I’m sure we were an interesting sight to passersby, but I’m well used to weird looks by now.

Welcome to Thumper’s favorite part of the summer!

We Have Camp! We Have Camp!

10:57am

Praise be and thanks to the valiant efforts of leadership involved, Apex Summer Camp begins today!  Returning for his fourth summer is… Rerun!

This summer, given the current state of things, is more important than most.  Apex has been shortened to four weeks instead of five, and there will be no field trips this year.  But they do have some fun things planned instead, and at this point, I just need Rerun out of the house.  He has gone feral and needs to remember that other people exist, and his social skills have atrophied.

So, HURRAY FOR CAMP!!!

Festivities On The Fourth

6:21pm

Well, how was everyone’s holiday weekend?  Ours went surprisingly well.

The good weather meant that we could have everything outside, which was the plan… in order to show off and use our new outdoor projector and screen!

The setup is still a work in progress, but this is just such a fun thing to have.  The Webmaster pieced together a PVC-pipe and bungee cord frame for the screen, which can be disassembled.  The only real problem was waiting for it to be dark enough to watch the screen.

Friend, Doc, and their boys joined us for an outdoor barbecue, and Ane’s friend KT was staying overnight for all the fun.

Thumper performed quality control on the chips, so all was good.

While Friend and Doc and the boys didn’t stay late for the fireworks, the Webmaster’s cousin and his family did come over to see some fireworks.  The kids really got a kick out of the sparklers.

Tad helped his dad light off the mortar shells this year – the Webmaster bought the fireworks package called “Revelation,” which was very funny.

The sounds of fireworks exploding continued on well into the night, but the kids had their fun and managed to ignore the excess noise.  The older kids all helped clean up, and then the Webmaster continued the cleanup in daylight the next morning.

Considering the current situation, we DID have a fun Fourth of July!
